KODAIKANAL
Kodaikanal is a city in the hills of the Dindigul District. It is called “the gift of Forest”. The hill station 120 kms from Madurai , 95 kms from Dindigul and 510 kms from Chennai. Kodaikanal was established by American missionaries around 1845. This hill station located at an altitude of 2133 (7,000 feet) meters.
Kodaikanal is a romantic hill station for the newly-weds to go for a honeymoon. An artificial star shaped 45ha. lake built in 1863 is located close to the center of town.
It is 8 kms from Kodaikanal Lake. The over-flow of Kodai lake comes down here as a 180 feet high waterfall.
Shenbaganur Museum:
The museum is maintained by the Sacred Heart College a Theological Seminary founded in 1895. It is devoted to preserving certain archaeological remains and he flora and fauna of this hills.
Coaker’s Walk:
This hill-edged pathway was identified by Coaker in 1872. Coaker’s walk runs along a steep slope on the southern side of Kodai. This place near to Koadai bus station, here located one Telescope House.
This park situated on the eastern side of the Lake. The Flower Show and Dog Show is conducted every year during Summer Festival in the month of May. A glass house which shelter fine varieties of flowers can be seen here.
Lake provides a beautiful view. The boat club, service was opened to the public and tourists as well in 1932.
Chettiar Park:
Tucked away in the northeastern corner of the town, on the way to Kurunji Andavar Temple.
Kurunji Andavar Temple:
It is a famous shrine dedicated to Lord Muruga. Lord Muruga is referred to as the God of the Hill here. Kurunji also means hill region in Tamil literature, and Andavar means God.
Green Valley View:
5.5 Kms from the lake and very near the Golf Club. This point commands a beautiful view of the entire Vaigai Dam. As the Valley here is very deep, dense and dangerous this place was once known as Suicide Point.
Pillar Rock:
Three boulders stand here, shoulder to shoulder, vertically measuring 122 meters providing a majestic sight. Pillar Rock is 7 kms from the lake.
Silent Valley View:
Just a little away from the Pillar Rock Berijam Lake Road, is Silent Valley View which provides a breathtaking.
Golf Club:
Situated on the road to the Pillar Rock, the Kodai Golf Club boasts of a well-laid 18 hole course fit for completions at national level.
Berijam Lake View:
This place provides a panoramic landscape view of Berijam Lake and is located just before one reaches the lake. This viewpoint is 26 kms from Kodaikanal Lake.
Kukkal Caves:
Located 40 kms travel by bus up to Poombarai and then give a walk. After walking through geranium plantations, pine and wattle forest, the Kukkal forest rest house can be reached. The cave reveals traces of earliest settled tribal’s, who use to wear leaf clothing.
